The call for sustainable living has never been louder than it is today. And I’ll admit, I’m not exactly the poster child for it… In fact, I have many reusable bags that have never made it back to the grocery stores I bought them from, and I only stopped regularly drinking from single-use plastic water bottles this year.
Sustainable living, I’ve learned, is a very large and very complicated aspiration, so when I find a more sustainable change that is easy to implement, I get really excited. And that, my friend, is exactly why you are now reading a blog about Blueland’s dishwasher tablets.

What makes them sustainable?
Blueland’s dishwasher tablets are plastic-free–unlike conventional dish-washer pods which come wrapped in petroleum-based plastic called polyvinyl alcohol (also referred to as PVA or PVOH). This plastic is designed to dissolve, but it doesn’t disappear.
Beyond this, conventional dishwasher pods are also typically sold in single-use plastic bags or containers. Blueland’s dishwasher tablets come packaged in compostable paper. How cool is that?

Now, as for the ingredients…
These dishwasher tablets are free from harmful chemicals such as parabens, phosphates, ammonia, VOCs, chlorine bleach, and phthalates. They are also vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, nut-free, and do not include dyes or fragrances. And finally, they are EPA Safer Choice, Cradle to Cradle Certified™, and Leaping Bunny (cruelty-free) certified.
Do they actually clean well?
Yes! There is no performance compromise. As a long-time user of Cascade dishwasher pods, I was definitely skeptical about these tablets… However, after using the tablets with both pre-scrubbed and non-scrubbed dishes in the dishwasher, I can tell you that both times I pulled out sparkling clean dishes.
The only negative comment I could make about these tablets is that a few had come broken in the package. A minor annoyance that simply required me to put the broken pieces together in the detergent compartment of the dishwasher.
Are they expensive?
When I compared the Amazon prices of the Cascade pods I used to use and these Blueland tablets, I was surprised to find that the cost per pod/tablet was exactly the same. Of course, I don’t know how this compares for you, but I don’t find the price of the Blueland dishwasher tablets to be unreasonable.

Conclusion
Blueland’s dishwasher tablets are a smart choice for those who want to live more sustainably without compromising on cleanliness. From their plastic-free packaging to their clean ingredients and effective cleaning power, these tablets have found a permanent spot in my home.
If you’re looking to make some eco-friendly swaps in your home, I definitely recommend these dishwasher tablets!
